Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga offers a different kind of yoga practice. It's based on intuition rather than tradition. If you think you need to go to a health club to be fit and beautiful, think again. If you think that you need to escape to a cave in the Himalayas to find the enlightenment that yoga promises, think again. Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga offers more than the familiar poses and breathing techniques; it offers a way to face life with a renewed personal strength.

I am a brand new beginner. Where should I start?

Yoga MeditationFirst Congratulate yourself! You are at the beginning of an amazing journey that will provide you endless possibilities. In My classes I welcome beginners --my classes are open to all levels. I encourage beginners to pace themselves in every class, and, for best results, to complete 10 classes in 3 weeks. This helps create a solid physical base and an intellectual understanding in which to continue your Journey into Power! With time and In increments, you'll build strength, focus, power, stamina and flexibility.

In addition to our all-levels classes, we also offer a Brand New Beginners Power Yoga Basics classes and Private instruction . These classes have the same standard flow as our all-levels classes but particular emphasis is given to the foundational postures, deepening the student's knowledge of alignment, physical condition, and spirit. Please check with Sky for availability and to schedule your private instructional classes.

As with anything new, be compassionate and forgiving with yourself and remember that you don't have to do or get everything right away.. Practicing yoga is a lifelong endeavor and the basics you learn will be crucial as you build a strong practice.

Will class be challenging for me?

YogaYes. But you can chart a course of your own by determining the intensity with which you practice and work in each pose and throughout the process. Your first few classes may be difficult. You might feel dizzy or even nauseous, but those symptoms will soon pass and you will witness the emergence of a new strength and power. Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga presents you with a healthy, challenging workout that will make you strong and stress-free.

How often should I practice?

A Successful yoga practice requires discipline, consistency, and wisdom. Consistency is the key to success. For life-changing results practice 4-6 days per week. A practice of 2-3 days per week, if consistent, will create transformation over time. Develop the spirit of repetition and everyday practice!

What if I'm not that flexible?

We encourage you to develop an open and flexible mind. You don't need to be physically flexible. All you need is to focus on letting go, sweating, breathing, moving, and respecting your limitations. A yoga pose as designed, will expose blocks and imbalances. Soon the tension will release and your range of motion will naturally increase. As you dissolve tension and blockage, your body will regain a more child-like suppleness. Remember that the main goal of Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga is to build and maintain physical, emotional and spiritual vitality, not to wrap your legs behind your head and contort your self into a pretzel (although that may occur).

Who is Sky Van Horn?

Sky Van Horn, has been devoted to the yogic path for 12 years. He masterfully blends his experience in Yoga, Martial Arts, Massage and Life Experience into an empowering and transformational style of Power Yoga. He continues his ongoing studies with world masters such as Baron Baptiste, Nancy Ruby, Mark White, John Friend, Rodney Yee, Shiva Rae, Duncan Wong and many others to provide the most evolved teachings, and bringing transformation to people in all walks of life.

In addition to being a certified yoga instructor with over 500 hours of yoga teacher training, Sky is a Senior Baptiste teacher and has been head assistant to Baron Baptiste in Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga and is excited to bring this life transforming system to the bodies, minds, and souls of his students.
